Brakeside IPA

Standard

Breakside’s IPA might have the power of transportation figured out, well at least in an aromatic sense anyway. Take a sniff of this brew and the crisp clean piney hints might take you to Oregon’s beautiful, damp, moss covered forests at the height of spring. This middle of the road IPA has an excellent balance of clean refreshment and hop bite filled finish. Just enough hoppitude to win us over but light as a feather (For ipas at least).

RuinTen Triple IPA Orange + Vanilla Bean

Standard

Stone’s RuinTen Triple IPA is a tongue and nose buckler IPA taking your senses for a wild ride down a raging beer river with hints of pure chocolate and orange liqueur. This beer will knock the socks off you or sandals if you’re in southern California, the 10.8% alcohol per volume will get ya going quick. The hop aroma and flavor is overshadowed by the high alcohol content. The vanilla and orange arrive with a burst of post gulp flavor that takes you back to hot summer days snacking on an orange creamsicle. When available it is worth giving this fly III IPA a try.

Port Brewing Company: Mongo Imperial IPA

Standard

Is it the famous surfing dog, Ricochet… Is it San Diego native surf legend, Skip Frye… No, it’s Columbus aka Mongo, one of the original brewery cats at Port Brewing. Port Brewing’s Mongo is cruising in on a killer hopped out wave full of citrus and tropical fruit aroma and flavor. This American Double IPA has serious hop overload taking the most veteran IPA lovers by surprise…in a sneaky good way. Three words came to our minds when we tasted Mongo for the first time, “I love it.” The bitterness is in ideal alignment with the hint of sweetness for this simply euphoric brew. It’s no wonder Mongo is Port Brewing Company’s second most selling beer and has continued to increase in hopularity.

Drake’s Brewing: Hopocalypse Double IPA

Standard

Drake’s Hopocalypse is an unyielding force of hop zombies intent on invading taste buds and destroying the notion double IPAs can’t be easy drinking brews or as Ana puts it, “It seems like it will mess you up without you noticing.” Be warned, the 9.3% alcohol by volume (ABV) is indeed hoppy yet feels light on the palate for the high ABV. Highly recommended and enjoyed by yours truly. One of the top Double IPAs we have tried to date.
